New Video: Jillian Michaels on PopChips & Healthy Food

The Associated Press
VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:

"Well obviously, with the New Years Resolutions, many of us want to get healthy, we want to
get in shape. And there's a new study that's recently been released by Google that suggests the average American has one item of fried food a day.  And I think that cutting out fried food is a really good place to start. Allot of Americans, we work hard, you know, and when we eat our food, we want to enjoy it, we want it to taste good, and I appreciate that.  But let's look at a couple different options that we can employ when we're dealing with snacks, when we're cooking at home, at even possibly when we're ordering out.  So we'll start with snacks for example.  Obviously, I'm going to want you to incorporate things like
  • Guacamole
  • Bean dips
  • Vege Sticks
  • A piece of fruit
  • Raw or dryroasted nuts
  • Popchips
Popchips are going to be a great alternative to a fried tortilla chip or a cheese puff.  They're 100 calories in a single serving bag. You've got no preservatives, no transfat, no MSG, no artificial nothing in there.  Its something your kids will love, that the husband will eat.  It's something that you can feel good about that's also calorie controlled.

Now, when we're talking about eating out, for example.  Real Simple.  Ask the restaurant if they can
  • Grill it
  • Bake it
  • Broil It
  • Steam It
Instead of frying.  And just that simple  switch in your cooking style is going to make a huge difference.  And when we're talking about flavor, you can get plenty of flavor from marinades, dry rubs, spices, herbs, which are also going to have a ton health benefits.  On of the things that you can do, something that I love to do, is crush up some almonds, or use whole grain breadcrumbs, and then put your fish or your chicken or your meatdish in that and bake it, and that way you're going to get the crunch and you're going to get the flavor without all the extra added fat.
