Fitness guru Jillian Michaels shares her goals for 2012

Slow down — that’s my priority, starting now. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been burning the candle at both ends. I’m not a person who waits for life to happen. Instead, I chase it. I know I’m never going to stop working hard — I love what I do too much. But I also know that the frantic pace is starting to affect my health, and that maybe it’s time I do the restorative and preventive things I tell everyone else to do — like flexibility exercises, for example. I never had the patience for those, even though I have terrible balance and flexibility. But they’re so important, especially as you get older. They help alignment, improve coordination and prevent knee and lower-back injuries, which are common with age. I also plan to start meditating — it’s something I’ve flirted with over the years but never did seriously. I’m extremely high-strung. (Maybe you’ve noticed?) I’m also prone to anxiety, which lately has been giving me stomach issues. Plus, I started getting stress-induced rosacea, which is so not cute. I’ve talked a million times about the benefits of meditating, but I never do it myself. I don’t know how to take five, 10 or oh-my-God 15 minutes during the day to just stop and process my thoughts and breathe. But it’s time to find that time, especially this year. I hope to expand my family, so I need to find balance and carve some calm into my chaos.
